Thinking about getting a name change for you or another family member?
In this blog post, I’ll talk about some of the complexities of name changes. We get a lot of calls, meet a lot of prospects, and have serviced many clients who request information on name changes, either for themselves or their children.
Name changes may seem like an easy enough process, but you would be surprised at how many different factors make this process more complicated, especially when it comes to name changes for children.
Factors that can increase the complexity and cost of child name changes:
- Absent parent
- Paternity Issues
- Child’s wishes (for older children)
Generally speaking, without knowing all the facts, an adult name change is much easier to come by. But, there are a few factors that will increase the complexity, or halt the process all together.
- Changing their name for fraudulent reasons
- Convicted of any charges above a class C misdemeanor, or
- Is subject to the registration requirements of Chapter 62 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure
If you can be characterized by any one of the above, you will have difficulty changing your adult name.
But name changes do happen! We have had very many happy clients, children and adults alike, who have had successful and quickly resolved name change matters.
